# Stem Cell Company CEO Gets 36 Months in Jail

The Justice Department says that **John Kosolcharoen**, most recently of Orange County, CA, founder and CEO of Liveyon and Genetech, two companies that manufactured and distributed injectable stem cell products made from human umbilical cord blood, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison following his conviction on charges related to marketing stem cell products that were linked to 19 hospitalizations. A department [statement](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/founder-and-chief-executive-officer-injectable-stem-cell-product-manufacturer-sentenced?ref=fdaweb.com) says that Kosolcharoen is already in federal custody on a separate, unconnected conviction.

In pleading guilty, the statement says, Kosolcharoen admitted that he and others misrepresented their ReGen product as suitable to treat conditions such as heart and lung disease, autoimmune disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and others. Liveyon marketed the products throughout the U.S. until about 4/2019, the department says, using advertising materials that contained multiple false and misleading statements about their purported safety and effectiveness.

Kosolcharoen pleaded guilty in August to one count of introducing an unapproved new drug into interstate commerce with the intent to defraud and mislead. At sentencing, the government alleged that sales of Liveyon products generated some $21.6 million in revenue between 2017 and 2018.
