# Stop Selling Unapproved Covid-19 Treatment: FDA

FDA and the Federal Trade Commission say that their review of the Web site and Facebook page maintained by Gaia Arise Farms Apothecary, Waynesville, NC, found offers to sell a product known as True Viral Defense or Viral Defense Tincture intended to mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure Covid-19\. A 4/13 [Warning Letter](https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations/warning-letters/gaia-arise-farms-apothecary-606668-04132020?ref=fdaweb.com) tells the company to “take immediate action to cease the sale of such unapproved and unauthorized products for the mitigation, prevention, treatment, diagnosis, or cure of Covid-19.”

The letter says that under the national emergency declared by **President Trump**, FDA is taking urgent measures to protect consumers from such products that have not been authorized or approved by the agency.

“We advise you to review your Web sites, product labels, and other labeling and promotional materials to ensure that you are not misleadingly representing your products as safe and effective for a Covid-19-related use for which they have not been approved by FDA and that you do not make claims that misbrand the products in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA),” the letter says.

Gaia Arise was told to respond by e-mail within 48 hours describing the specific steps it has taken to correct the violations, including an explanation of each step and copies of related documentation, and a schedule for completing the actions. FDA also said it was adding the firm to its list of companies and Web sites that have received Warning Letters about the sale or distribution of Covid-19 related products in violation of the FFDCA.
