Subtle Medical Imaging Software Cleared

FDA has cleared a Subtle Medical 510(k) for its SubtleSYNTH, which uses deep learning to generate synthetic Short Tau Inversion Recovery (STIR) images from already-acquired T1 and T2 weighted contrasts. “SubtleSYNTH creates synthetic STIR images with zero acquisition time that are interchangeable with conventionally acquired STIR images,” the company says. STIR images are highly water-sensitive, and the timing of the pulse sequence used acts to suppress signals coming from fatty tissues. Subtle Medical says it was recently awarded a $2.3 million NIH grant to continue the expansion of the SubtleSYNTH technology to brain and musculoskeletal radiology imaging in future releases.
