# Sun Pharma Recalls 2 Riomet ‘Contaminated’ Lots

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries has recalled (Class 2) two lots of Riomet (metformin hydrochloride oral solution), 500 mg/5mL, due to *Scopulariopsis brevicaulis* contamination, which was discovered during sample preparation for an antimicrobial preservative effectiveness test that was being performed as part of required 12 month stability study. Riomet is indicated to treat Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children aged 10 and above.

Using contaminated Riomet could result in an infection, particularly those who are immunocompromised, according to a [recall notice](https://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm586452.htm?utm%5Fcampaign=Sun%20Pharmaceutical%20Industries%20Inc.%20Issues%20Voluntary%20Nationwide%20Recall%20of%20Riomet%C2%AE&utm%5Fmedium=email&utm%5Fsource=Eloqua). *Scopulariopsis brevicaulis* could cause pneumonia, sinusitis and disseminated infections, it says. To date, Sun says it has not received any adverse event reports associated with the recall.
