Sun Pharma Recalls 4 Lots of Vecuronium Bromide

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries has recalled three lots of vecuronium bromide for injection, 10 mg (lyophilized powder), and one lot of the 20 mg size because they have been found to contain particulate matter identified as glass. The drug is used as an adjunct to general anesthesia, to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.

Intravenous drug administration containing a glass particulate may result in local irritation or swelling in response to the foreign material, a recall notice says. More serious potential outcomes would include blockage and clotting in blood vessels, which may be life-threatening. To date, Sun says it has not received any adverse event reports related to the recall.
