Synaptent Marketing Unapproved New Drugs: FDA

FDA says its review of a Web site maintained by Synaptent, Chicago, IL, indicated that the company markets 17 dietary supplements that are legally considered to be unapproved new drugs. A just-released 11/09 Warning Letter lists some of the claims made for the supplements that establish that they are drugs intended for use in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease and/or intended to affect the structure or any function of the body.

The letter also says some of the products are misbranded because they do not contain adequate directions for use or because the serving size on the labeling is incomplete.

Synaptent was told to respond with a list of specific steps it has taken to address the violations and prevent their recurrence, with copies of related documentation and a schedule for completing the corrections.
