TAP Pilot Has 159 Enrolled Devices
FDA says that as of 10/7, there are 159 medical devices enrolled in the Total Product Life Cycle Advisory Program (TAP) pilot. An online update also says that on 7/1, TAP expanded to accept enrollment requests across all Offices of Health Technologies for Breakthrough-designated and Safer Technologies Program devices that meet TAP enrollment criteria.
The voluntary TAP pilot is intended to “help spur more rapid development of high-quality, safe, effective and innovative medical devices that are critical to public health,” the statement says. It carries out one of the commitments between FDA and the industry in the MDUFA 5 reauthorization.
TAP is to expedite patient access to innovative medical devices by providing early, frequent, and strategic communications with FDA and by facilitating engagement with other key parties for developers of devices of public health importance.
The statement says a dedicated cadre of FDA TAP advisors proactively provides solutions-focused engagement that is tailored to each TAP innovator’s needs in advancing devices to market and patient access.
