Tecentriq Study in Urothelial Cancer Misses Endpoint
A Genentech Phase 3 study (IMvigor010) evaluating Tecentriq (atezolizumab) in people with muscle-invasive bladder (urothelial) cancer did not meet its primary endpoint of disease-free survival. The company says more treatment options are needed after surgery because about half of patients will see disease recurrence within two years after surgery, it says.
Tecentriq is a monoclonal antibody that is designed to bind with the protein PD-L1 expressed on tumor cells and tumor-infiltrating immune cells, which may enable T cell re-activation. The drug is currently approved for treating urothelial carcinoma. The company says it is also being studied in genitourinary, skin, breast, gastrointestinal, gynecological and head and neck cancers.
