Texas Man Sentenced for Selling Unapproved Subutramine

A federal judge has sentenced a Corpus Christi, TX, man to 12 months in prison for selling online and in stores dietary supplements that contained misbranded or unapproved foreign drugs. Elias Trevino Jr. had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges, a government release says.

At the time of his guilty plea, Trevino admitted he knowingly possessed and sold diet drugs containing sibutramine, which was withdrawn from the market in 2010 due to safety concerns, including an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death. He acknowledged he imported the drugs from China.
