Theranica’s Nerivio Device Cleared for Migraine
FDA has cleared a Theranica 510(k) for its Nerivio therapeutic device for an expanded indication for acute treatment of episodic or chronic migraine in patients aged 12 years and older. The company says that about 10% of all school age children and up to 28% of teens between the ages of 15-19 live with migraines. The prescription-only wearable device is worn on the upper arm for 45 minutes and uses remote electrical neuromodulation to activate the brain’s “native conditioned pain modulation mechanism” to treat pain and associated migraine symptoms, according to the company. Nerivio is delivered directly to a patient's home and each unit is good for 12 treatments, after which it can be recycled, and the prescription refilled with a new device, it says.
