Torrent Pharma Expands Losartan Recall

Torrent Pharmaceuticals has expanded an earlier recall from two lots of hypertension drug losartan potassium tablets USP to a total of 10 lots due to the detection of trace amounts of an unexpected impurity found in an active pharmaceutical ingredient manufactured by Hetero Labs. Torrent is only recalling lots of losartan-containing products that contain N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) above the acceptable daily intake levels recognized by FDA, according to a recall notice. NDEA, which is naturally found in certain foods, drinking water, air pollution, and industrial processes, has been classified as a probable human carcinogen.
