# Trump Extends FDA, Other Funding for 30 Days

President Trump has signed a short-term continuing resolution that funds FDA and other agencies at FY 2019 funding rates through 12/20\. For now, a government shutdown was averted and more time is available to advance pending spending bills.

As previously discussed, the Alliance for a Stronger FDA has [reminded](https://strengthenfda.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=564aaf3ba56647cf536ecb9b0&id=4480452964&e=122703d8fb&ref=fdaweb.com) its constituents “how the unfinished Defense Department appropriations bill is the best guarantor that FDA and other non-defense programs will not be subject to a shutdown or a full-year continuing resolution. Once spending bills start to move (hopefully in December), it becomes a concern as to the order in which they are taken up, finalized, and sent to the President. We would hope it didn’t matter—that Congress and the President are committed to finalizing all 12 appropriations bills—but it would be reassuring if other bills are moving forward to completion before the DOD funding bill.”
