Trump Focused on Health Policy Changes: Ubl

PhRMA (Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America) president Stephen Ubl says that when drug industry leaders met with president Donald Trump, they found that he was focused on policy changes that would allow the U.S. to continue to lead the world in drug development. “We had a positive, productive exchange,” Ubl said in a YouTube interview at a Boston medical conference sponsored by The Atlantic. “We discussed trade, taxes, IT, and regulatory changes that could be made.”

He said a second focus Trump articulated involves innovation to take advantage of and harness the current “golden age of medicine.”

Ubl said one of his tasks in leading PhRMA is to bring it and its members “into the solution space.” He discussed targeted changes that are needed to strengthen the generic drug industry as a means of providing more competition and thus helping to hold down the cost of innovator drugs.
