Trump to Fire ‘Thousands’ of HHS Workers: Report

The White House is preparing an executive order to fire thousands of HHS employees, according to a Reuters report that says the story was broken by the Wall Street Journal based on anonymous sources. According to the Journal, Reuters says, the order could come as soon as next week and would require FDA, CDC, and other health agencies to cut a certain percentage of employees.

The newspaper reported that officials have been told to prepare lists of probationary workers who have essential roles and must be retained, and those who don’t.

HHS employs over 83,000 people, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the report says.
