# Trump Wants Drug Pricing Bill, Grassley Says

Following a 5/19 closed-door lunch for **President Trump** and Republican senators, Sen. **Chuck Grassley** (R-IA) said Trump indicated he still wants congressional action on legislation to lower drug prices despite the Covid-19 public health emergency. As [reported](https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/498834-grassley-says-trump-pushing-for-drug-pricing-action-after-senate-lunch?ref=fdaweb.com) online by *The Hill*, Grassley asked Trump if he still wanted to see a drug pricing bill.

“And he talked about it for a long period of time, as he takes a long time to answer questions,” Grassley said, “but he said yes, he expected us to put a bill \[on his desk\].”

*The Hill* reports that last year there was gathering momentum in both parties for some action to lower drug prices, with Grassley and Sen. **Ron Wyden** (D-OR) introducing legislation and House Democrats passing an even more sweeping bill.

“But the issue has faded amid the coronavirus pandemic,” the article says. “And pharmaceutical companies, who took a rhetorical beating in Washington last year, are pointing to their efforts to develop coronavirus vaccines and treatments in a bid to shore up their image.”

Grassley reportedly said the economic fallout from the pandemic makes his bill for drug affordability even more important.

The post says many GOP senators object to Grassley’s bill due to a provision limiting drug price increases in Medicare to the rate of inflation, which the senators view as a price control.
