Trump Working on Canada Drug Imports: Azar

HHS secretary Alex Azar told CNBC 7/30 that President Donald Trump is working on a proposal to allow the U.S. to import drugs from Canada. “I just got off the phone with him,” Azar said, “working on a plan on how we can import drugs safely and effectively from Canada so the American people get the benefit of the deals that pharma themselves are striking with other countries.”

CNBC said it was unclear what the proposal would look like and noted that Trump has previously supported a plan by members of Congress who said they could lower high prescription drug costs by approving imports from Canada.

In most cases it is illegal to import medications from other countries for personal use, according to FDA, CNBC says.
