# Trust Down for FDA, Drug Companies: Poll

An Axios/Ipsos poll conducted on 9/11-9/14 finds that fewer than 10% of Americans have a great deal of trust in FDA or in drug companies to look out for their interests. The firms say the poll [results](https://www.axios.com/axios-ipsos-poll-distrusting-pharma-fda-coronavirus-index-7605a67b-606d-4e0a-b85f-1887147aa8f8.html?ref=fdaweb.com) show how difficult it may be to get Americans to converge around a vaccine when the time comes. They also say the results underscore the dangers of politicizing agencies tasked with administering science and protecting the public.

“It’s going to be hard for the authorities to communicate what people should be doing and how to be doing it,” said Ipsos senior vice president **Chris Jackson**. “There’s going to be a huge organizational challenge in how do we get people pulling in the same direction because nobody’s really trusted.”

The results show that FDA still is trusted somewhat more than drug companies, with 57% of Americans having some degree of trust in FDA, although only 8% of them categorized it as a great deal of trust. Some 42% of respondents said they had either not very much trust in FDA or no trust.

For drug companies, 42% had some trust in the industry (6% of those with a great deal of trust), while 57% had not very much or no trust at all.
