Trust in Health Agencies Continues Decline: KFF

The January Kaiser Family Foundation Tracking Poll on Health Information and Trust documents a continuing decline in public trust in government health agencies that began during the Covid-19 pandemic. Trust in FDA has fallen from 65% in 6/2023 to 53% in 1/2025, the poll shows. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dropped from 66% who trusted the agency a great deal or a fair amount in 6/2023 to 61% now.

“Individual doctors remain the most trusted source of health information,” the poll shows, “although the share saying they trust their own doctor a great deal or a fair amount to make the right health recommendations also declined from 93% to 85% over the same time period.”

The poll identifies partisan differences, with Democrats about 30 percentage points more likely than Republicans to say they trust HHS to make the right recommendations on health, and similar partisan gaps affecting FDA, CDC, and other HHS agencies.

KFF also sees an erosion of support among Republicans and parents for childhood vaccines and school vaccination requirements.
