# Walmart’s Yiannis Named FDA Deputy Commissioner

FDA commissioner **Scott Gottlieb** [says](http://www.fdaweb.com/download.php?file=EMAIL%5FFROM%5FFDA%5FCOMMISSIONER%5FSCOTT%5FGOTTLIEB%5F10.docx) Walmart vice president for food safety and health **Frank Yiannis** is joining FDA as deputy commissioner for food policy and response, replacing deputy commissioner for foods and veterinary medicine **Stephen Ostroff**, who is retiring. Among his other duties, Ostroff served twice as acting commissioner for a total of 15 months.

Ostroff will retire 1/5/19, Gottlieb said, and until then will be a senior advisor to the commissioner and will help Yiannis, whom he was instrumental in recruiting, into his new role.
