Warning on Apyx Medical’s Renuvion Device
FDA has issued a warning against using Apyx Medical’s Renuvion/J-Plasma device for certain aesthetic procedures, such as procedures intended to improve the appearance of the skin through dermal resurfacing or skin contraction. The device is cleared for general use of cutting, coagulation, and ablation of soft tissue during open and laparoscopic surgical procedures, and the agency says it has not been determined to be safe or effective for any specific procedure intended to improve skin appearance. FDA has received reports describing serious adverse events when this device was used directly on the skin and potentially life-threatening adverse events when used under the skin.
