> In a *Forbes* blog [interview](http://www.forbes.com/sites/joannabelbey/2016/03/09/6-ways-pharma-may-use-social-media/print/?ref=fdaweb.com), cardiologist **Kevin Campbell** says there are six ways that drug companies can use social media effectively while still complying with rules and regulations. He identifies them as:
> consumer education with disease-specific information that presents topics broadly and is relatively non-biased so that patients may understand their disease and better engage with their healthcare providers to improve outcomes; marketing through sharing of news releases on new drugs, medical devices, features, clinical trial results, etc.; connection with customers/patients through patient support groups and communities; connection with physician-customers through Twitter chats with doctors as an efficient means of professional education without the expense of drug representatives in the doctor’s office; clinical trial enrollment; and social listening through which unmet needs can be identified and priorities for research and development funding determined.
