WHO Alert for Fake Iclusig in Europe, Americas

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a medical product alert confirming that “falsified” versions of Takeda/Incyte’s leukemia drug Iclusig (ponatinib HCl) 15 mg and 45 mg are circulating in the WHO region of Europe and WHO region of the Americas. The alert says WHO was informed by health authorities in Switzerland that a local wholesaler had purchased packs of Iclusig and determined that they are falsified. It says that are two versions of falsified Iclusig being traded globally, including through Internet sales.

Laboratory tests, the alert says, determined that specific batch numbers of Iclusig 15 mg and 45 mg do not contain ponatinib and instead contain paracertamol.
