# Woodcock Detailed to Commissioner’s Office

CDER director **Janet Woodcock** has accepted a detail in the Office of the Commissioner to “start-up” the Trump Administration’s therapeutics initiative under its recently announced “Operation Warp Speed” for Covid-19 treatments, according to FDA commissioner **Stephen Hahn**. “While she focuses on this work, CDER deputy director Dr. **Patrizia Cavazzoni** will serve as acting director,” he said in a [Twitter post](https://twitter.com/SteveFDA/status/1263909609930178560?ref=fdaweb.com).  

[Last week](https://www.fdaweb.com/woodcock-marks-out-of-covid-vaccine-review/), Hahn said that Woodcock and CBER director **Peter Marks** would recuse themselves “from the supervisory chain of command in matters related to product review decisions for applications related to the areas that they are advancing that have a nexus to Covid-19.” Hahn issued the statement after questions were raised about a potential conflict of interest with Woodcock and Marks in the Operation Warp Speed public-private partnership announced by President Trump to speed approval of a new vaccine before the end of the year.

Hahn now says Marks is returning to CBER as director due to “the team of tremendous experts in vaccine development that’s been assembled to pursue Operation Warp Speed.” Marks returns to “focus on leading the entire spectrum of important work of taking place within CBER related to the Covid-19 response – in both the vaccine and therapeutics space,” he adds.
