Comment Period Extended on IRB Proposed Rules

Federal Register notice: FDA is extending by two months the comment period on two proposed rules (see earlier story) that appeared in the 9/28 Federal Register. One proposed rule would replace current requirements for FDA-regulated cooperative research with new requirements that would require any institution located in the U.S. participating in such research to rely on review and approval by a single IRB for that portion of the research that is conducted in the U.S., with some exceptions. The other proposed rule would amend FDA’s regulations to modernize, simplify, and enhance the current system for oversight of FDA-regulated human subject research.
